Hey, What’s Up Hello!

This is my space to share one of my favorite past times…eating. There will be fun food stories and photos to salivate over. So grab a chair and stay a while.

L.A. IN A DAY

L.A. IN A DAY

Here’s a little story about how my life got flipped-turned upside down…wait, I’m not the Fresh Prince, but I did fly to the west coast for 36 hours. Who does that? This girl. So here’s a short blog about things to do when you have limited time in the city of angels. There might not be a Beyoncé concert happening but I’m sure you’ll find something to do in your time there.

BARE IN THE AIR

First up, remember, you have limited time so you need to hit the ground running. If you’re like me, you are #teamcarryon and have your toiletries readily available just in case you have to do a quick ummmm… bird bath in the airport bathroom. A VERY QUICK ONE. You are in public. Maybe, throw some makeup on after you’ve washed your face… if that’s your thing of course. I am #bareintheair, (shout out to @joannasimkin) so I do not wear makeup when I am flying. I wear my diva shades and call it a day. From there, you should be able to do some light duty so that you can make the most of your time. In my case, I had a work thing an hour away in Burbank so I had to drop my luggage off then hustle.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

By now, you’ve done the first thing on your list, you’ll be good and hungry and will want to cat nap. DON’T DO IT. Besides, I had a 7 o’clock dinner reservation at one of my favorite restaurants, Catch. I have yet to have a bad experience there. I would even just go for the dessert, Hit Me Cake anyone? When that cake went viral, I knew that I had to have it. That might be the best, most decadent dessert that I’ve had there, but the dessert that I had on this visit, made me want to lick the plate. Even my friend who watches what she eats took multiple bites. I’ve also had their deconstructed strawberry shortcake, which is outrageous and tastes so much better than those old school strawberry shortcake bars. And how can I forget the cinnamon roll donut w/ coffee ice cream, insert the licky face emoji. Their desserts change so you’ll always find something new and delicious.

SLEEP? FOR WHAT?

Normally I am a huge proponent of sleep, but again, limited time, so after dinner, what else is there to do on a moderately warm evening, get some drinks! But where to go? If you’re part of the cool kids, you might go to SOHO House, grab a cocktail and people watch then nod off in the comfy sofas. Not for long though because the night is still young and L.A. closes early. So after we’ve see all the cool kids, hit up Mama Shelter for another cocktail and more people watching on the rooftop. By now, it’s midnight and you aren’t tired yet, or are you? Doesn’t matter, you’re an adult and you want to see some more nightlife and do a two-step, so maybe hit up Sayers Club. It was a good vibe when I went, good music, not too hollywood and Black AF. The clubs close at 2 am so you’re there long enough to dance and not sweat your hair out and maybe get a number or two.

LATE NIGHT SNACKIN’

Alright, so you’ve had dinner, drinks, danced off both and are hungry again. Maybe you have the munchies, maybe you don’t. No judgment! And you can’t leave L.A. without getting a taco. My spot of choice and L.A. folks love it, is El Chato Taco. It’s a late night truck on La Brea and it’s CHEAP. You’ll be mad if you only order two tacos, you’re not being greedy if you order four or more. If anything, the leftovers will nurse your hangover lol.

BRUNCH HARD

So you’ve spent your first day on the go, you nap for five hours and wake up ravenous. Where to go? We had limited time because Beyoncé. Oh, and I was leaving RIGHT after the show on a red eye (DON’T DO THIS). This was a light day so we spent the bulk of the day eating and drinking at brunch. My good friend recommended a cute spot on Melrose, Taste. It’s pretty low-key with people who mind their business and eat. I don’t always order breakfast sandwiches when I am sitting down in a restaurant, but this sandwich was something else, even though it sounds very basic. It had eggs, candied bacon, lettuce, tomato and aioli all on a croissant…maybe not that basic. Either way, my tummy was pleased. I also tried their truffle oil and mushroom mac and cheese with butter poached lobster.

That about wraps up my day. And even though I didn’t intend to have such a whirlwind day, and it took me two months to remember that it happened, I’d do all these places again. Share some of your favorite L.A. spots in the comments.
